Overwhelming Nature

In my paintings I have always used lots of colours according to the tradition in Expressionism. Colours not as seen in nature, but in my mind when trying to express feelings within a concept. There is no correct combination of colours, no rules against using black, green, violet, blue og yellow when making sky or figures, and no rules in warm, cold, close or far away. It is the final work and the feeling I have when leaving the canvas that is important.

Colours in nature are different. Being out in the huge open spaces at the Norwegian mountain plateau; Hardangervidda, with the low sun at the beginning of wintertime, colours are Blue and variations of blue and white. The light is spectacular and I do understand other painters that want to catch the light. The enclosed photo is an example of that. I think photos are better when doing that and will continue in making my colourful pictures with acryllic on canvas.

I have also opened a painting Forum where I hope for more feedback on my works in addition to general debate on painting. Click on the link to the left. See more of the Hardangervidda photos here

    Facinating Video

My son-in-law David brought my attention to this video. Very fascinating, and shows one workingprocess of making a painting.

  • It may take a while to download, but worth it.
