Birthdays of Goya and van Gogh

3rd May 1808

When I made the painting of our cottage (see previous post) last summer and presented it in the Norwegian blog on 15th july 2005, I got positive responce from a.o. Portugal. The author of a culture covering website wrote about my works and compared "Tullarbo" with works by Vincent van Gogh. Today it is 153 years since van Gogh was born and his works have forever made their place in the history of art. See more of his works here:
  • Van Gogh

  • Another great painter is Fransisco Goya.
He was born on the same day for 260 years ago. I had the opportunity to see a lot of his works at the Prado Museum in Madrid in 2004. One of the paintings are the 266x345 cm oil on canvas The third of May, 1808 which for the first time (?) in art history focused on the victims and not the victors. A great experience and a recommendation for everyone to go to Madrid. In addition you have to see Picasso´s Guernica at at the Reina Sofía, Spain's national museum of modern art and most important take a visit through the painting history at Museo Madame Thyssen.
Here you can see some of the works of Expressionist painters at that museum:

    Summing-up my painting presentation

    Paintings from summer 2005

Works produced during the last nine months.

This is the last video showing my paintings from the beginning summer 2002 and up to date. I have done this to document the process but also to experiment with making film and videostrips. I have found a way to compress movies of almost 2 giga bytes to video of around 50mega bytes without reducing the quality too much. I have used 3ivx for compressing

  • And as supporting music I have downloaded free music from Meme.
MEME is David Meme (MEME), a Brighton based musician originally from Birmingham. After a series of ill-formed Indie band experiments during the nineties he became interested in the fledgling electronica scene and built his own recording studio to record tracks. His music is often described as melancholica which neatly describes the downbeat, melancholic streak within the music. Read more in

  • Thanks to all, and hopefully you have been able to watch the pictures at your own computers.

    2005 - a year of imitations

    Watch the Video
At the beginning of 2005 I made a lot of imitations of other painters works. Not copies but based upon their design, style and choice of colours.

In early 2004 I joined a painting course at Oslo Malerklubb. An interesting process and I must have gained some competence because my works are much better after this peiode.

This video is very big for normal internet connection. The downloading may take some time so may be it is better to see it in the

    The vernal equinox 2006

This year snow and ice removing from the streets has inspired me to make a video based upon photos taken and put together in iMovie. Added with sound from ABBA, and compressing the movie from 1.7 GB to 7.4 MB in mp4 format should make it possible to see by most of my blog readers.

At least I don´t think the expressionists cared about that. looking into the paintings of van Gogh, Munch, Nolde, Rouault, de Vlaminck, Kirchner, Pechstein and Derain you will see that they all presented nature as they wanted. That´s art.

Three colours and a not typical motive for my way of working. Too nice for me, but may be in accordance with policy we can read out of the article by the Minister of Culture, Trond Giske, in Aftenposten some days ago. "In accordance with solid social-democratic tradition to build the nation and educate the people". The article has created debate and I believe that will go on in coming weeks
His article in the newspaper today has a lot more power, so lucky me; I can go back and do what I love most: Express feelings through multiple use of colours. Just wait and see.

As Picasso in my opinion always has been and probably will be one of the greatest painters ever, I just had to make my version of that work.
I think it is good enough for a hobby painter as me.

When Tor Marius saw the painting he wanted to have it, even if Rikke felt that a football player on the wall in her livingroom could be too much.
Nevertheless he got it and I am not concerned about where they decide to place the painting.
