Variations in Colours and Lines

Colours and lines

Sometimes it is only relaxing to make paintings. Well not so that I only threw colours on the canvas, but relaxing in the way that it does not need to look like anything. It has only to do with my own process. May be that is what abstractions are.

This time I decided to put colours together in a way that I would like to look at it. Try to find combinations of shapes and colours and strengthen the overall expression by using some black lines. The result? OK.

May be some will see something like Mondrian in the construction, but it is not meant to be an imitation of one of his works.
The problem when doing a painting like this is that you will not be absolutely certain what is the best way to look at it, portrait or landscape, this or the other way.

Without placing a signature, it can also be the decision for the owner or user. This way is my wifes preference

Sinnataggen in pink

I don´t like vandalism. Deliberate destruction of or damage to public or private property is not acceptable. Not even as a political protest or manifestation like the Kaliban destruction of the ancient Budda sculptures in Afganistan, or cutting the head of the mermaid in Copenhagen.

The people painting "Sinnataggen", one og Norways most famous sculptures. in pink tonight, have no sympathy from me whatsoever silly decicions they are protesting against.

Please do not destroy artworks.

The first picture in this blogpost is from the Munch Room.

The second picture shows one of Kai Fjells most famous paintings.
and the third is made by Arne Ekeland.

Autumn in Nordalen

When the winter is over and we may call it Springtime outside, it is time to finalize some of the paintings I started to work on in 2006. This one is based on memories and a photo taken in Nordal, Norway last autumn when we visited Per Cato´s new cottage. It is not an architectural wiev, but a free version of the cold, almost clear, sunny day, and the cottage hidden from the sun by dark mountains. No sun no shadow, but colours as usual
