20 years since Chernobyl

Chernobyl 20 år etter
Originally uploaded by ArneA.
At 1:23am April 26. 1986 the chain reaction in the reactor no 4 in the Nuclear Power Plant at Chernobyl became out of control creating explosions and a fireball which blew off the reactor's heavy steel and concrete lid.
As a tribute to those thousands of deads and the environment disaster I made this cold blue painting.
More details about Chernobyl can be found in Wikipedia, and the highly exposed radiation areas seen at the map here presented in Elena Filatova´s Chernobyl journal and listen to the "Ghost Town" Song

Easter Rising Dublin 1916

During our stay in Dublin two years ago when we attended the 2004 European Heart Lung Transplantation Games, we had the possibility to visit the General Postoffice and took some photos of the paintings decorating the walls in the lobby. The paintings show some of the sceneries from the Easter Rising which was the rebellion staged in Ireland against British rule on Easter Monday in April, 24. 1916. Despite its military failure, it can be judged as being a significant stepping-stone in the eventual creation of the Irish Republic.
Today it it 90 years since that rising.

Royal Garden Oslo

Royal Garden Oslo

It´s Springtime in Oslo.
The Royal Garden is full of crocus, white, blue and lilac. The northern sky is deep blue and the grass has started to come out of it´s winter shelter longing for mild water and warm sunshine.
The temperature is around 10 degrees at midday but still almost zero through the night. It is April.

At Aker Brygge you can see the Castle of Akershus to the east through the mirror wall at Lektern. Thirsty people are tasting the beer brought out by smiling students. Springtime is here.

Helene´s first Painting

Streptokokker
Originally uploaded by ArneA.
Helene Bjørkmann Berry has made her first painting; Acryllic on Canvas, during her stay in Norway this Easter. We have called it "Streptokokker" because she has got some infection in her chest and have to stay inside today.
She has chosen the colours herself, where to place them on the canvas and used the paintbrush without any direct help.
Congratulations with this unique creative work. May be you will have to pay millions for it within some years.

The Lady above all ladies - 500 years

Gioconde
Originally uploaded by ArneA.
In1506 Leonardo da Vinci decided that he should stop working on his most famous painting; Mona Lisa. He was then 54 years old, and his birthday in 1452 was April 15th.
Leonardo never left the painting and they say he carried the portrait of Francesco del Giocondo´s wife with him all his life. We congratulate da Vinci on his birthday.
  • Leonardo da Vinci

  • The painting on this blog is not by Leonardo. It is Velazquez´s La Gioconda. Velazquez worked many years in Venice, Florence and Rome and made many imitations of masterpieces during his education. This work can be seen in Prado, Madrid.
Many artists have made their own versions of Mona Lisa. One of them is Patrice Murciano,
and I really like his modern work from 2001.
